    Dear Friend,

People from all over the world subscribe to CELBANPrep Writing Level One . When I read Rashin’s assignment I could see she was working very hard to incorporate vocabulary while writing about the pros and cons of children participating in sports. Having experience with the IELTS, I asked her to answer the question I am asked all the time: which is easier the IELTS or the CELBAN. Following are quotes from two conversations.

A war of words is being waged on the subject  of whether sport has positive impacts on children or not. I feel confident in stating that the pros outweigh cons.

It is believed that sports have a detrimental effect on youngsters’ behavior. Due to the competitive nature of sports, they might become violent. For example, when children lose the competition, they are likely  to show bad behavior, like crying or screaming. Physical damage is another negative side of sports on young people. Owing to the fact that sports need various levels of physical activities, they might hurt themselves. In some cases, they are likely to be involved in long-term disabilities.

In contrast, the positive impacts of competitions on children are conspicuous. Undoubtedly,  for  those children who do exercise regularly, they have the opportunity to reap the benefits of strong muscles and  a fit body. Moreover, sports can help  ayoung generation to improve their social skills.

Due to the fact that being a team member requires teamwork, they are responsible to fulfill their duties as a team member. As a result, a sense of co-operation and responsibility will improve among them tremendously, which can influence their future career.

All in all, it can be asserted that although sport has some negative effects on young people, the positive points of sport on children cannot be ignored.

Wow, this really seems like an IELTS topic. Great vocabulary. I think you will be pleasantly surprised with the CELBAN!

I am very impressed with your writing, Rashin, but please relax a little…Please read some of the posts on my blog to get a better understanding of what is required on the CELBAN. Writing Sample for CELBAN.

After you do, please comment on the similarities and differences between the IELTS and CELBAN. Which do you think is easier?

    Dear Kim

I love your tutoring. I have never seen this method before… I am so happy that there is a person who care about my writing and try to instruct me how to correct my mistakes. I am so excited when I am looking for my errors to correct them, because this method helps me to know my weaknesses. I am trying to strength my weaknesses particularly grammar and spelling…

I feel confident in stating that the CELBAN is more easier than  the IELTS, because CELBAN is related to my major and I just need to have a good knowledge of nursing. With regard to the IELTS, the candidates should have a wide information about various things like, social, economy, political, educational or environmental issues. Due to these reasons, I, as a person who have taken the IELTS exam three times, can say that the CELBAN exam is easier than the IELTS.

    All the Best,

    Dear Rashin,

The method I am using was something I learned when I was a Teaching Assistant at the University for a Professor who taught a communication class. As TA’s we were to mark the assignments handed in in our labs. We were instructed to welcome assignments, from students who had good time management and could hand them in early. We were to give them feedback, so they could improve their score. I had students do this three and four times, and because of their work and preparation they got very high marks. One went from a 70% to a 95%.

Another professor was also my inspiration. He taught me about two errors I made repeatedly, one was the comma before the word “which”. I can not remember what the other one was. After working with both of them, I actually enjoyed studying the advanced grammar rules.

I am so glad you took the risk, and subscribed to CELBANPrep!

Can I post what you have written on my blog? Would you like me to include your name or use an initial?

    Dear Kim

Thank you for your comments. It would be my pleasure if you use my comments on your blog. It does not matter to display my name or my country in  your blog.

NOTE: Added May 2018. Rashin is now registered as an RN, working in Emergency. She has been doing so for well over three years now. KK

    Hi KIm,

I am doing good. Thanks. And how about you? The weather in Winnipeg has taken a turn and from some warmer days, we are back to a chilly/rainy weather conditions.

i am from from India and its been an year and four months living in Canada and Winnipeg is where I landed and I am looking forward to stay here for some more years.

I have not taken the CELBAN examination yet and I do not have the scores for CLB. But I have taken the IELTS test and my scores were :

    • Listening- 7.5
    • Reading-  7.0
    • Writing –   6.5 &
    • Speaking- 8.0

I have tried doing the self-assessment test by celban, but its the same video and passages that keep on repeating.

Looking forward to get your package and start doing the preparations.

    Dear A,

It is so wonderful to be warm again! Tonight there is such a warmth in the wind. I always feel so much better when it gets warmer and more beautiful.

From your scores you are doing well, but writing seems to be a weakness. Besides the free resources you might want to look into the CELBANPrep Writing Text Books (Level One and Two).

How longWith a score of 6.5 you can anticipate taking 4-6 months to prepare, if you work hard and spend lots of time practicing. It will take less time if you get CELBAN or IELTS: Grammar Essentials that will allow you to turn your weaknesses into strengths while teaching you the skill of editing your own work.

(It will also assist you in increasing your competencies and score in the other skills of reading, listening and speaking as well!)

By turning your grammar weaknesses into strengths, you will be on the road to improvement!

But, first, you need to know what your weaknesses are. For a limited time I am offering CELBAN or IELTS: Writing Assessments. This will allow you to know what your weaknesses are, and which of the  CELBAN or IELTS: Grammar Essentials  ( if any) to use to turn them to strengths.

Are you interested in taking half the time to pass the CELBAN?

P.S. Ensure you get the CELBAN or IELTS: User Guide. It is FREE with Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited.

    Dear kim,

Thank you for sending those emails each day. I really appreciate it. Im just a bit confused which test am i going to take, or ,which one is much easier for me,whether celban or ielts. English proficiency is the only exam left for me to get my RPN lisence here in canada and i must admit that i am no good in english grammar to begin with. And then i saw your name [on Dear Kim] answering all these questions and helping us by giving some tips. I taught that it would be of great help reading all the tips you have been sending us.

Maybe one time i will sit and open my computer to write down my questions. And i want to thank you in advance. Have a nice day ahead. God Bless!

    Dear J,

Thank you for your message. You are cute in writing, “Maybe one time i will sit and open my computer to write down my questions.” I would love to do that for you, and here it is! It is your day!

As you may have noticed people ask basically the same questions. But there is always something different, something personal that brings things into perspective from a different angle that I had not thought about before.

So one of the emails was about the IELTS or the CELBAN. Did you get that? And did you read the posts? What do you think now?

That question I get asked all the time! At least once a week! In fact that is what has inspired the CELBAN or IELTS Series. So many people delay their progress because they can not answer this question. So many people spread their energy, time and attention thin because they only have time to focus on one thing at a time.

And that is the thing! Many of the skills you need to pass the CELBAN are the same that you need for the IELTS, and the CELPIP, and TOEFL and whatever else.

The most important skill is time management!

The second, in writing, is being able to identify and correct your own mistakes so that you can get a better score!

To do that you need to have both time management AND Grammar Essentials. So the CELBAN or IELTS Series  (which includes CELBANPrep Writing Level One), teaches you those skills. It teaches you the skills that will improve your score on any and all English Proficiency tests you take. Actually, it increases your skills so that your whole life benefits!

For you the advantage is that you have done everything else towards your RPN, so without knowing it, you have been studying! But then, if grammar is your weakness, begin there, because you can improve your score in all four areas, skills, by improving your grammar: reading, writing, listening AND speaking.

What do you think about that? Do you think, ” that it would be of great help”?

You have a great day and, may God bless you as well!

Kim, I was lost when I decided to finally take CELBAN. Prior to that I took IELTS more than 5x when I was in the Philippines and 2x here in Canada. I was devastated when I didn’t got my desired scores in IELTS. I had hesitations in applying for CELBAN because: first) it don’t know anything about it, second) i don’t know people or institution who conduct reviews and lastly) another months of preparation. Luckily, I saw CelbanPrep thru google… I joined in the month of FEB and took the CELBAN MAY 3. I passed!

Kim was an excellent teacher. During the speaking, everything she told me works, relax and be confident. While in my writing, she taught me to organize my ideas in less than 20 minutes. Kim, you are an angel (as I always say.) … I also told you that I was worried about my listening because i need to get a perfect 10, with your advice,I got a 10. Reading, is the easiest part of the exam because I love to read.  KIM! I will be forever grateful. FYI, i told my friends who will take CELBAN to register CelbanPrep. Love, MA

    Dear Kim

I passed. Can you believe it? After three times failing the IELTS exam, I finally passed my CELBAN exam in the first attempt. I do not know how can I appreciate you. In fact, your great teaching method made my future bright in this country. Nobody knows my feeling now, it is like a flying. Finally my dreams come true with the help of God, your great teaching and my stamina.

    My dearest friend.

It was six months ago that I did not have any hope to pursue my job in this country. As I had passed the CRNE exam before, the only barrier for me to become a registered nurse was the language proficiency exam; however, IELTS totally depleted my energy and I decided to quit my dream. My husband encouraged me to join the CELBANPrep course, but I had no trust to your course. Finally I joined the CELBANPrep course without any hope, I told my husband,” I attend this course because of you, but I know that it is useless!” I feel confident in stating that joining CELBANPrep course was the best gift that I have got in my life. When I was under a huge pressure, and I felt hopeless and helpless in this country, you act like a lighthouse to show me a right way in the stormy sea. You are in my heart and my mind for ever.

    God Bless You

    Dear R,

Thank you for sending this message.

I am just rereading it over and over again. There is a smile on my lips, in my heart, and a tear in my eyes.

    I did not know.

I did not know that you had given up your dream before meeting me.

I did not know you did not have any hope.

I did not know that you had no trust and you thought it was useless.

    I did not know.

Now that I know, I am touched beyond belief.

If you look at the logo for IEPC you see a person standing in the dark. IEPC is the light showing the way. Below the figure are the words: Creating Connections, Sustaining Dreams. For some businesses the logo tag line and values or mission statements are just statements. But for me, my logo and tagline are an expression of my hopes and dreams for myself and what I do. To read your message is so deeply validating.

Please extend my warmest regards to your husband, for taking such good care of you when you needed it the most. It was his faith in you that transformed to his trust and faith in CELBANPrep. He is a good man, to sustain you in this way. There are many women across Canada and around the world who do not have such support. He is an example for many. I wish him the very very best in pursuing his own goals and dreams of life in Canada.

Wherever the wind takes you, please stay in touch, knowing I will be thinking of you with fondness.

    Dear Miss Kim

…the only thing missing to complete my requirements is the english test. thats my priority now to take the english test, im scared coz my english is not good enough, especially my diction, i need to study and practice, i dont know which test will i take. thats my concern for now.  – H

    Updated 2019

    Dear H

English is a barrier to many. People that dedicate themselves to the language (and grammar) do much better, in a shorter amount of time. They save a huge amount of money. They reach their goals quicker. They make more money sooner. Note:

    • IELTS is usually the exam of choice, for immigration, as it is available globally.
    • CELBAN is usually the choice for the licensure process for RNs and LPNs.

Some people take the general IELTS for immigration, only to discover it is the academic version that is required for licensure. If it is possible to figure out how to take only one exam, for two purposes, it will save money in the end. But most people end up taking more than one. Usually, people work on achieving the score for immigration, and then worry about increasing the score to one acceptable to NNAS ( to the colleges of LPNs or RNs) once they get here.

That is when they switch from IELTS to CELBAN.

One more thing, you can only take the CELBAN 3 times. If you do not get an acceptable score, you have to wait 2 years to be given another chance! So it is best to prepare the best that you can even before you take the exam!

These are some of the problems:

    • Some people take the CELBAN without preparation.
    • Other people do not integrate the feedback they receive on their weaknesses.
    • Others feeling confident in their score in one area focus only on the weaknesses only to get a lower score on what was once a strength.

When it comes to people applying to be an RN, I have had people who have had to take the CELBAN again, before taking the final licensure exam because their exam expired. Fortunately they had more chances.

At the end of the day passing your English exam, if you really want to make this happen, needs to be a first priority. It’s like taking medicine. It might taste bad, but it helps to make everything else better!

That is why I created the CELBAN or IELTS Series so that you can learn the transferable skills, when it comes to grammar, test taking, and the English language. Improving your competencies in these areas will assist you in increasing your score not only on every exam you take from here on in, but also your life and career as a whole! They help you prepare for reading, writing, listening AND speaking: for the CELBAN, for the IELTS, for the CELPIP and any other English exam you will ever take!

Check out this tag: I passed the CELBAN on my first attempt!!!

So, instead of asking which exam to take: change the question. Ask, which resources will help me to prepare for my exams. The answer is: the CELBANor IELTS series, which includes:
